Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Not an unusual conclusion. I've talked to a number of chicken keepers who think a blood spot means the egg is fertile. I talked to a lady a few months ago who gets upset about the white connective tissue (? chalazae??) that holds the yolk in place. She takes the time to remove every bit of it.
That's just too much trouble.

My dad always insisted on removing that white bit. He swore it was "rooster sperms "

If I was that paranoid, I doubt I'd be eating eggs. Or anything else for that matter.

People on this board have said that before. Funny how human sperm is microscopic, but they think sperm from MUCH smaller birds is visible with the naked eye. <oy>

We have one egg customer that only gets brown eggs. Well HE likes all of the eggs, but his wife thinks there is something wrong with the blue ones. I only have a few LF brown layers. I was so tempted in filling the carton today with with all silkie eggs. Those are brown! I'm supposed to keep the silkie eggs for now. DH wants some pickled silkie eggs.

The wife would probably freak if she knew they eggs were fertile. The husband knows and knows it doesn't matter.

I've had people tell me that all roosters are mean and aggressive. I told them to come to my house. I don't keep mean roosters. If you're mean I eat you. If you're nice I'll try and find you a home instead of eating you. The closest to aggression any of the ones I have is one cockerel who will rush up and try and pull either the net or my hands off of a hen if she yells when I catch her. It's really brave of him, since he fully believes if he gets close to me I'll pick him up and he hates that. Of course I have to make sure he keeps believing that.

A friend asked why i feed organ meat from our game animals/trapped coons/etc to the birds. I said it was to give them a taste for blood so they will eat any predator that gets near them and i dont have to worry so much.

It was a funny joke until a large mouse got in the pen. The chickens pecked a hole through its ribs and ate the organs. Now i think hard before napping in the run.

here is a crazy one i have heard from basicly everyone around me who has kept chcickens they all say that when a chickens gets big scaly feet they are old when in fact they have scaly leg mites

Actually, I think you are both right. Young chickens have smoother legs than older ones, but mites make scaly legs no matter what the age of the chicken.
