Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I know to many people who try and hatch grocery store eggs. I was at a friends house one time and they where showing me there homemade incubator. When I looked in I saw EB (Egglands Best) on the top of the eggs.

How is it that we as a society can be soo far from where our food comes from? How is it REALLY that folks can be so far from the "birds and the bees" ?

Because the "birds" come packaged neatly in cellophane containers in the store. Even "honey" doesn't contain anything that comes from bees anymore. It's a sad culture we have created with our youth. I brought a jar of pickles I had made to school a few weeks ago to give to a friend. Since the students were intrigued by the jar on my desk, I asked them of they knew how pickles were made. Only 1/5 of them knew that cucumbers were involved. Most thought they came from a "pickle bush". Most also thought carrots and potatoes grew above ground from a vine or bush as well. Only my country kids and kids in horticulture class knew where they came from.

Bwahahaha yeah I have a chicken like that too, wont go in the house, but never fails to shower me in cack every time I pick her up!

I have one who pees on me everytime I pick her up ... I swear. I thought only puppies did that. Now, I wear a canvas apron when I know I'll be picking her up.

I've never had one pee, I've never even seen any of my chickens pee, I know they do obviously, but it's almost like they're all to shy to pee in front of me but pooping they have no problem?

In birds, Pee and poop are combined and come out together. The white in a solid poop is the pee, When they have runny poop, it is still combined, just harder to see the difference.

So, I have a broody hen. My first ever. I have read other people's posts of what to expect, how to care for them. So I was sure I knew what I was in for. I dutifully took my broody off the nest to let her eat, drink, and poo.
Heard the tale tell gurgling noise their guts supposedly make before they poo. What came next is difficult to describe.
First it sounded like the water hose had been opened up and aimed at the side wall of the coop. The projectile excrement hit the wall with a surprisingly loud solid thud. Thank all things holy I was not standing behind her. She then begins to chortle and walks up to the feed hopper and water. I am standing vigilantly and that is when an odor invades my nostrils that causes my bile to rise and an involuntary doubling over reflex to occur. It can only be likened to a godless amalgamation of vomit, rotten eggs, and diseased sewer run off. I have and work with various types of animals. Poop is a part of life. It has never bothered me. This was epically horrendous. Consider yourself warned.

Bahahahahaha Good to know..

That's what I always heard ... the white part on the top of the poop was "bird pee". But, every time I pick up my Buff Orpington, Blanche, a clear yellow fluid comes out of her bottom half. Don't know what else it could be .... "If it looks like pee, and feels like pee ... ". I 've had to come in and change my clothes every time. Just like the neightbor's puppy who got excited every time he saw me and peed on my feet. It got so bad that my (then) 3 y.o. old son would say, "Kick off your shoes, Mom, here comes Frisky".

Animals have always loved me.
