Oh yes, he still tries to show me where treats are. I'm just grateful he didn't try to take our relationship to the next level. That would have been TOO awkward!

My, are those his wattles

Mines got a large crest & wattles, not good where I live,

he has to come in at night or else he develops frostbite. And by in, I mean yes, in my home. Although he's not noticeable, he just goes to sleep in his pet carrier under the stairs.

Get a different insurance. I even asked State Farm about it after reading some of that stuff. All they cared is if I was doing large scale farming. Need a different policy for that. I was told they would set me up a new one if I decide to do that. I was told a few horses, goats, cows, sheep, pigs, or chickens, they didn't care. A good portion of the people here have some of those animals as pets. They also don't care what breeds of dogs we have, just if they have ever shown aggression towards people.

Quote: Considering how bad frostbite has been on some of my other roos, I was genuinely surprised that Zee didn't lose his comb too. His wattles crack me up--one is huge and the other is less than half the size. I try not to point it out around him, as I don't want to make him self-conscious about it! ;)

This was our Duke. Reminds me of your Zee, Prairie Chickens. He was our only bantam roo in our Flock of Standard birds. Got along with the NH roo as broodermates. But sneaky. Always trying to steal a hen away from him. Super hilarious. The girls took the brunt of it getting barebacks and I did make the difficult decision to get rid of him. His favorite maneuver was coined the "Triple Stack" around here. I'll let you all envision that scenario....

"Chicken Days of our LIves" out in the yard has not been the same since he's left.

My DH who has no say whatsoever in the chickens, as he was over-ruled with his Nay Say on getting chickens...put in his two cents to keep Duke. I promptly ignored him. But Duke sure still has some memories and stories floating around the household yet every once in a while. So much character.

Wow! He's gorgeous! I had an Australorp, Aretha, but she died. I just got 2 more chicks because I love the breed. Great birds!
