They have a chain of restaurants up north called Dick's Last Resort, where you have to be rude or they will not serve you and they are rude to you all the while you are there. 'Nuff said.

Any place that glories in insulting and rude behavior and thinks it's entertaining has a serious screw loose. Call it culture, call it attitude, call it what you will but in the end it's still rudeness and bad manners under the guise of being "in your face" and being proud of it.
I worked up there for three months on a travel nurse job and only found one nice person in that whole time...the rest were extremely hateful, cursing and unprofessional in everything they did. The very first day I was there, the very first thing someone said was, "What the f*** do you want and why are you smiling???"....that was the assistant director of nursing.

She promised to wipe that smile off my face~I must have missed the part where I had enrolled in the military boot camp~and she sure enough did...took them a couple of months but by the time I left there I couldn't muster up a single smile until I headed the truck for home.
All the while I had to deal with insults to southern folks...about how stupid we were to smile and be nice to folks all the time, how slow our fast food restaurants were, how they hated it that we hunted or ate wild game, they made fun of my hair and my accent...the litany goes on. Suffice to say I was not impressed with the kindness of the folks in Rhode Island. The further south we drove from there the more friendly folks were and we were never so glad to get home in our lives.
Interestingly enough, even their dogs were unfriendly and cold. We'd go to the beach and see folks walking with their dogs and the dogs walking ahead and not on a leash. Not a one wagged a tail or approached us for greetings..it was strange. We'd bend over to offer petting or greeting and the dog would just turn its head and walk by like we didn't exist. Not a single dog acted like it was enjoying itself, running, wagging, etc. Never saw such undog-like dogs in all my days. My dogs would have greeted everyone on the beach and all their dogs too, just happy to see folks.
