Oh I know, I made the mistake of telling her that, and she's convinced that it must have been a disease causing virus ( when I believe it was quite harmless, and simply fed off of their DNA, and caused it to mutate) and that they must still have it.

WAT. Also, lol @ the comment regarding a green egg being moldy. XDOMG, I was telling a lady at work the other day that I'll be getting chickens this summer and plan to have lots and lots of eggs. I told her I'd bring some in for her so that she can taste how much better they are.
Know what she said?
Her: "Oh my GAWD, eeeeeewwwwww, I could never eat those eggs!"
Me: "Ummmm, why not?
Her: "Well, BECAUSE, they came out of a chicken's butt!"
Me: "Ummmmm. Huh? You eat eggs from the store, right?"
Her: "Well, yeah, of COURSE, but that's different!"
Me: "How is that different? Those eggs also came out of a chicken."
Her: "But those are all sanitary and come in a box."
Me: "I'll wash my eggs and box them for you too."
Her: "Blech, no way. I could never eat eggs from your chickens. That's just gross."
Me: "***?"
[Erica walks away shaking head]
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
LOL, this is just too much. No wonder I want to quit my job and become a pioneer woman and never have to leave the house...
You will be interested to know that blue eggs can blame their origin on a virus......
The two breeds, one in South America and one in China that first began laying blue eggs, were caused by a virus. It did not hurt the chickens and the virus is gone but the Gene change is permanent. Can you explain and elaborate? I didn't know that. I thought since so many native wild birds lay blue or green eggs it must be a natural species trait?
Learn something new everyday. Interesting, thanks for sharing. The two breeds, one in South America and one in China that lay blue eggs were caused by a virus. It did not hurt the chickens and the virus is gone but the Gene change is permanent.
There was a news Story about it. Since the Blue egg shell is dominant, if it happened a bunch then all chickens would lay blue shelled eggs.

the whole "you're gonna eat them" think/joke does get kind of old. Why would you eat something that gives you more food by being alive? They know they are girl chickens. This thread has had me in stitches! It's brilliant!
The main "question" I get asked is whether or not I eat my chickens when they die! We have ex bats and bantams, so I always ask them would they eat their cat or dog. Generally I get looked at in absolute horror for suggesting such a thing, to which I tell them they have their answer.
