Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

This site is the only place that I've seen that abbreviation. For me, ETA means the same as it does for you. For editing, I've always just put and (Add) out in front of what I have to add to the post. Every site, region, and clique has its own lingo.

I never know if it's regional (there are some real doozies up here in the Blue Ridge mountains, which took me quite a while to learn/figure out) or generational, so I'll keep asking if everyone doesn't mind. Thanks, 7


To avoid any hurt feelings, I happen to like the variations in dialect. It's very interesting, and some of these expressions go waaaaay back, to the time when the settlers first came here. For example, "Backanow" (Back of now, meaning in the past, at some time in the past, when I was a kid, etc.). Said as one long word, you should've seen me try to figure that one out. huh? (I thought they were saying "bacchanal") I felt like an idiot for several years, but I've got the hang of it, now. In fact, earlier today, I wuz loafering on the porch when it came a big flood. It wuz so bad, I had to go inside.

I always like when people are surprised that I educate myself about chickens. I'm not a commercial egg producer, so I can get very close to each of my hens' needs and personalities.

I know! People find it amazing that my chickens are all named and I get, "you can tell them apart!" Non of them even look the same! I've only had chickens for a couple months and I've educated myself thoroughly (thank you BYC!). Still have tons to learn but it already socks me how little anyone else knows.

As for acronyms, they can be a bit frustrating at times. Some forums use the acronym qft. Some of them mean "quoted for truth", the same way some people will quote and add "x2". Other forums use it as "quit f****** talking". Exactly the opposite meaning.


On here a lot of people use acronyms for their breed of birds, and some of those acronyms can apply to more than one breed.

@7 Biddies I like the way you approach BYC like it's a scientific experiment. Sort of reminds me of the TV show Bones, where she had been watching Jersey Shore and studied it vigorously with the eyes of an anthropologist.

My dad thinks that brown eggs are better than the others. I told some of my friends about my chicks. They told some of the popular girls. And now I get mean looks and comments like:what do you want those filthy birds for(I reply:for eggs)or I'm glad I don't live near you.(In reference to the smell that isn't there). You can't prove that they are not right.

I was in the middle of a bench mark teacher asked how are your chicks did they all hatch... People make fun of me about it.. They dont know the truth about half of the food they get... If anyone makes fun of u or gives you dirty looks ignore them.. They start drama as a hobby i hatch chicks.... They think im wierd for having chickens, i think theyre wierd for having $100 shoes...dont let popular girls change who you are...
