I have a recipe for Crazy Cake:

Preheat oven to 350 F.

3 c flour
2 c sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 c cocoa
2 tsp vanilla
3/4 c cooking oli, mild flavored - corn, canola, etc.
2 c warm water
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vinegar

Put dry ingredients in a large bow and mix
Make a well, add liquids, mix together with spoon - do not use electric mixer.
Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream

Simple Chocolate Cake
1/2 c cocoa
1/2 c brewed coffee
1 and 1/2 c sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
2 c cake flour OR substitute 1c all purpose flour minus 2 Tbsp for each cup of cake flour (Here 2c all purpose flour minus 4 Tbsp of flour. It is better if you don't substitute.)
1 tsp soda
pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients in the order listed.
Beat well.
Bake at 350 F in a 9" x 12" pan for 40 minutes.
This recipe is from Lydia Keim who stated circa 1988 that the recipe had been in the Keim family for more than 60 years.

I am going to make a thread/post about the chocolate idiot cake, it's crazy simple, dense, decadent, rich. Like eating a wedge of chocolate truffle/ganache, and very few ingredients. If that kind of stuff is appealing to anyone

You think?

Decadent recipes are why I have the sleek shape of a harbor seal - or maybe a walrus. I look suspiciously like a BessarabianDeutschen grossmutter although I was never blessed with children.

And I cook like one, too.

Here is a simple Apple recipe:

Apple Streusel

5 to 6 Apples (3# bag of Granny Smiths)
½ C. Sugar

Streusel topping:
1C Flour
¾ C Sugar
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg
½ cup melted butter
Ground cinnamon

Peal, core and slice apples into a 9x13 pan. Stir sugar into apples.

Topping: Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium size mixing bowl. Add unbeaten egg and mix together with a fork until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples in baking pan. Pour melted butter over the topping. Sprinkle cinnamon over topping(Careful, don’t use too much)

Bake at 350 for 30 to 40 minutes(depends on how soft you like the apples)

The crazy cake recipe is VERY similar to the chocolate cake recipe I lost except I think you added 1 tsp instant coffee to each cup of warm water, or let coffee cool and then used it. Thanks.

My mother in law asked me about chickens yesterday. She asked if they were laying yet. I told her no, but soon. She asked if I was going to throw the first several eggs away?

I probably gave her a rude look and said, "NO!! Why would I do that?!!" I've been waiting so long on these eggs that question just took me by surprise and brought out a strong reaction lol. Her reasoning was to not eat them until the chicken gets all the kinks worked out. Is this some old wives tale? Something people used to do back in the day? The first time I find an egg I will probably run screaming into the house, call the family together, scramble the egg and divide it into 4 tiny bites and demand they all have their bite right away.

Throw them away...

To be fair, some of the 'first eggs' from my hens were . . . .odd inside. With improper yolks that had weird colors and/or wasn't whole (like a broken yolk). I didn't eat them. I am getting
quite a few doubles though, now that they have been laying a few weeks. . .I know it will stop, but it's fun while I'm getting them. =)
