This doesn't really fall under dumb things, but I thought it was funny in a cool way. My stepdaughter brought her girls (4 and 10) to visit for the weekend. It's their first time here since we started raising chickens. The girls, especially the older one, have been having a lot of fun running around the back yard with the chickens. We have some that are a little over a year old (1 rooster and 5 hens) and 7 from this February (we thought they were all pullets till recently when one's comb grew larger than the other and his tail started curving). At one point the girls were running in the yard and one of the pullets was following them.
This morning when I fixed breakfast, Sarah, the 10 year old, asked me if the eggs she was eating were "real" eggs, meaning eggs from our hens. I told her that yes, they were, She said they're delicious and proceded to devour them.
We have a basket (Easter egg basket) that my wife uses for collecting eggs and the girls brought the basket into the chicken coop to collect eggs. They had a fun time. The egg from our barred rock was still warm so I let Sarah feel it and explained that it was that way because it had just been laid.
Our granddaughters were running around the back yard trying to catch one of the pullets. After a while they began running the other direction and one of the pullets ran after them trying to follow where they were going.
I love it when children are excited about things like this. It gives me hope for the next generation.
