Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

It just occurred to me perhaps for some reason it's just the thought of it being fertilized that freaks someone out, not anything else, I know for a while for some reason eating canned tuna not used in tuna helper or a tuna casserole for a while just freaked me out, I could not eat a tuna and mayo sandwich or tuna salad for something like 3-5 years. I don't know why (perhaps I got ill after eating it once and sub consciously blamed that? I'll never know) perhaps they had a touch of a stomach bug and blamed that or as I said they have a phobia... I purchased some custom made hotdogs from a meat locker near me a few years back, I cooked them properly and ate them with some family, a couple liked them and one didn't like the seasoning in them but otherwise thought they where alright, but as I had been shopping and running errands that day and the others hadden't left the house that weekend I got sick. I know it had to be I ran into a bug but to this day I cannot even think of buying or eating those hotdogs because it makes me quite ill thinking of them and I know for certain it was a bug I caught. I purchased some other processed meat and regular meat there and used it a few days later and it never made me ill so I know it was a bug. But still I can't eat or think of those hotdogs. well on the bright side I'm not hungry now. lol
that is exactly it. its just the thought of fertilized eggs. i myself don't have a problem with them, but im getting kinda sick of eating eggs

. if those people knew what was in half the food they ate, they would starve to death. i had a cousin who wouldn't eat cottage cheese after she found out what it was. i have an aunt who will only eat white eggs. and a friend who wont eat bratwurst now, since he found out what the casing was. i have also been told my meat chickens are unsafe because i don't put antibiotics in their water.
raw acv is very good for us, but most people wont use it unless its pasturized, same with honey. as a rule of thumb goats milk is better for us, but we insist on cow. i truly think new diseases are being created because of our antibacterial soaps, pasturizing everything, and lack of nutrition in our hybrid super veggies. of course this is just an opinion of a hillbilly farmer.

I cannot believe how many people get freaked out about eating eggs that come out of chickens that they have met, or talked about yet they will happily buy and eat them from the supermarket which are actually less nutritional and not fresh!?

We live in an attached house where the garden is mutually owned by whoever lives in the building. So the part of garden that is closest to us we maintain and handle, the rest of the garden is looked after by others. Only people who know us go in our part of the garden as you don't really need to get to it unless you want to, but when we decided to get chickens we still asked all the other maintainers of the grounds. All but 1 was not okay with us getting chickens. It was almost as if he was scared of them!

"NO WAY! Chickens are vicious, dirty animals. Disgusting ugly things! Why would you want to get them, they smell and are really noisy?"

I replied that he would not have to go near them and he was welcome to fresh eggs whenever he wished.

"I wouldn't eat any eggs from chickens" <-

I guess he's more of a duck egg fan then?

Please do us all a favor. If/when you see this person again, ask him, politely, whether or not he eats eggs. And if so, what, in his opinion, they are from. I would like to know. I really would.

You're not the only one with that opinion!

It's an opinion shared by most readers of Mother Earth News; including moi.

I must admit that I had to dissect so many eggs with partially developed chicks in them, that I developed a thing about fertilized eggs; the thought of them really turned me off. However, after owning my own girls and eating their eggs for a year, I think I'm starting to get over it. Intellect is beginning to override emotion in that area.

Reminds me of the balut they eat in the Philippines except balut is made from duck eggs where the embryo has begun growing before the egg is boiled. To answer your obvious next question, only once, and no I wasn't drunk and I never got it down.

I don't mind it when people acknowledge they are uninformed or misinformed; but, don't argue that you're right and the rest of the world is wrong. Especially when they KNOW it's something they just assumed to be true, otherwise known as "conventional wisdom". E.g., when my builder argued with me when I wanted to put an antique bathtub in my bathroom because, "It's a big waste of money. You'll never use it. Nobody takes a bath anymore".

My reply, "Well, meet 'Nobody'. And, put the tub *there*".
What happened to "the customer is always right?" And who buys a house without a bathtub/ only a shower?

I had a co-worker who couldn't stand the smell of Roast Beef because once when pregnant, she became very nauseated. Her baby was in his mid 20s when she told me (expecting first grandchild thus the reason for stories) the the association was still just as strong as when it first happend. She knew the reason for it, but couldn't get past the one time reaction. Sometimes are brain doesn't always make the correct connections.
