This was actually something dumb that I said when we first got chickens after seeing our first egg: "Why is it so small? Will it grow if we let the hen sit on it?"

Bless your heart! LOL!!!This was actually something dumb that I said when we first got chickens after seeing our first egg: "Why is it so small? Will it grow if we let the hen sit on it?"![]()
That's great!Ha! I've been giving eggs away to co-workers for over a year now. They are totally hooked and when I recently began talking about selling them, they literally started "bidding" on what they will pay if I put them on the top of the "list"! (highest so far was $5 a doz)
I give first dozen for free to co workers to get them hooked on real eggs.Problem now is I have only four layers till Aug. then we should have 30 but 6 are banty. Family n friends usually only pay half the time since I don't like to charge them but they seal money in my truck or purse. Grr
Hm. I'm trying to find people to GIVE eggs to.
Lots of people, including family members, think fresh eggs are unsanitary or just plain gross. I end up scrambling eggs for my flock (which I have no problem doing, they deserve it) because we are getting about a dozen a day.
Maybe I'm not spending enough time trying to educate people, they just don't seem to want to be educated. We have a cockerel and most people are put off by the idea of fertilized eggs, even though I gather eggs several times a day, no chance of growing chicks. Whatever.![]()
I don't understand why people care what the color of the egg is when they are going to eat it. I love all the different colors of eggs out there!
Is there a farmers' market near to you where you could sell some? Or, if there aren't enough eggs to bother with that, how about putting a "Fresh GMO Free Eggs" sign in your driveway? Only those who are interested will bother to stop. You can also post a small sign on a community/church bulletin board. I don't waste my beautiful, and expensive, eggs on those who don't appreciate them. Only those who appreciate their value need apply.
OMG, I was telling a lady at work the other day that I'll be getting chickens this summer and plan to have lots and lots of eggs. I told her I'd bring some in for her so that she can taste how much better they are.
Know what she said?
Her: "Oh my GAWD, eeeeeewwwwww, I could never eat those eggs!"
Me: "Ummmm, why not?
Her: "Well, BECAUSE, they came out of a chicken's butt!"
Me: "Ummmmm. Huh? You eat eggs from the store, right?"
Her: "Well, yeah, of COURSE, but that's different!"
Me: "How is that different? Those eggs also came out of a chicken."
Her: "But those are all sanitary and come in a box."
Me: "I'll wash my eggs and box them for you too."
Her: "Blech, no way. I could never eat eggs from your chickens. That's just gross."
Me: "***?"

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
LOL, this is just too much. No wonder I want to quit my job and become a pioneer woman and never have to leave the house...
