OK.....this is very embarrassing.

Disclaimer: I am an accidental chicken owner. This was my daughter's dream, she lost interest in chickens super fast, I took over, had to have a crash course in chicken management, and here I am today passionately in love with all things chicken.

Before this, I was blissfully ignorant like most people of all things chicken related. I had all kinds of chicken and egg misconceptions. But, the only one I can think of right now is this dumb one:

I thought that all chickens laid brown eggs and that in their natural state, they were brown. I thought that white eggs were simply bleached eggs by the the egg industry to make the eggs look more pleasing and palatable to the consumer.

That was a good one!

Guess you've learned
Yep, I learned real good!

Here is my egg basket in their "natural, non-bleached" state today"

The sad part about it is that we got chickens in March of this year, so prior to March, I believed the egg industry bleached eggs to make them white.......so ashamed.............

Who simply looses interest in chickens? They aren't even very hard to take care of.

Gorgeous eggs and basket!

$10 bucks say teenager... Younger teenager. Or am I just cynical?

Lots of people lose interest in their chickens. I have had people that bought chickens in the spring want to bring them back in the winter....... Because they are tired of trying to figure out how to keep their water bowl from freezing.......

I live in SC. I moved here from WV. I am still waiting for "winter" to strike!

I have also had chicken buyers call me up and ask me if I clean chicken houses......... because they just don't have the "stomach to do it" themselves. I give them the number of a friend that uses the manure on his garden.
