My dad's older sister grew up on the farm and after 40-50 years of city life she thought farm fresh eggs had something wrong with them because of the color and consistency. plus she couldn't stand the stronger taste. but then again she was a natural blonde.....

My friend bought a dozen from me saying how her daughter was into the "organic" style and while my eggs are organic I'm not really selling them claiming such. Well her daughter wouldn't even eat the eggs because the shells weren't white............ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Do you wanna see the bum the egg came from? It's fresh as can be. Right from the pooper. Lol an my mom found out that chickens only have one exit..she decided store bought eggs were cleaner. Smdh

okay more blue and green and brown poop eggs for me.

You might remind your mom that many organs in the body serve more than one purpose. She breathes and swallows with the same throat. And have her think a bit about her husband....

I couldn't beleive the difference in eggs when my girls started to lay. Store bought eggs are watery and the yolks are pale yellow but the nice, good eggs from my hens are flavorful and the yolks are bright orange. I thought that it was very cool. I live in a very small farmer town so when I told people that I was getting chicks they were all very excited to buy some fresh eggs (at the time the chicks were only a day or two old). Now we are just waiting for the eggs to get a bit bigger before we sell them. The people here are very supportive of my chickens and are eagerly waiting to buy some eggs!

If the eggs you buy from the store are watery, you might want to find another store to shop at and not just for eggs. Watery eggs are a good indication they are old and/or have been mishandled. If they buy stale eggs and/or mishandle the eggs the way they handle the rest of their products probably needs some improvement too.

I would certainly be interested in a ff feeder for my flocks, there's always one chick covered in each batch of chicks that seems to be just the obvious one that loves to scratch in the ff.

I use the chick feeders, but they like to not have the lid on it, but that creates a huge mess.

I can't eat store bought eggs anymore. I'm always so disappointed in them, now I'm getting pretty picky about what feed my layers get based on how their eggs taste. I couldn't get to the feed store that has the layer feed I like the best so far, but I have enough to get by until this weekend, but I got 18% protein all flock pellets for my dp meaties and muscovy ducks and organic non medicated soy free chick starter today at the feed store along with some scratch grains as winter approaches.

We're going to put in a solar powered string of led Christmas lights in the coops this weekend and make a bigger door in the Rubbermaid tote for the muscovies. I can't wait for duck eggs.

We have two houses side by side on a small lake, living in one and sometimes renting out the other. Last spring I heard that a guy i had met while fishing wanted to move back out of town so they came over to show us their little dog, worried about a No Pet rule.
Last summer he asked if he could build a 10 x 10 storage shed (just under building permit size). I pointed out that he could even squeeze a few hens into the shed so they could have eggs. Now the shed has 35 mixed hens and four ducks. The hens are just beginning to lay giving about 4 eggs/day. He started with a 4' snow fence, then added two feet to the top of it. Finally added another 3' to that, trying to keep a few of the hens from flying in and out. The ducks seem to slide UNDER the fence, then sit in the lake until dusk, when they slide back into the run.
My birds will be free ranging as soon as the tomatoes die.....
They realize that goats and cows are not on the list.........

If you like to look and see if the feeder would work for you here's a link https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/931194/fermented-feed-feeder#post_14214470
Let me know if it could work for you.

If it is possible, and they have access to a run....you might just want to try putting down a plop or 2 on the ground the them. The FF. I had originally used old bowls and skillets to serve them their FF, but one time I had to toss it on the ground. They prefer it on the ground. So now, when I bring them their FF at 5pm...they get plops on the ground to scratch up. It is usually all gone by bedtime. If not, they finish it up for breakfast.

The eggs normally have a sell by or best by date.
They also have a numerical code that is the Julian date on which they were packaged.

I use the chick feeders with the spinner top, not the one with all the little holes. It works much better.

Or maybe a paving stone or wide board.

Well, my inlays won't eat the eggs. They haven't confirmed why, but they are strange people as it is! I was in the grocery store one day and saw a carton that said "vegetarian eggs". Excuse me? How is that possible?
