Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I sent some eggs home with my son and his wife the other day. They just sold their home and are staying with his in-laws until they close on their new house. When they brought the eggs home it started a discussion with his MIL and FIL about the merits of farm fresh eggs and free range eggs.

His MIL only buys cage free eggs, when they were eating the eggs she asked him about my chickens. When my son told her I got them for pest control she asked him why, how, what.......

He told her we have a terrible insect problem here with ticks, beetles, and box elder bugs. He told her the chickens eat the bugs and then went on to tell her how few bugs we had this summer. He told her they enjoy the birds and they are like pets, except they eat some and get eggs.

She stopped eating the eggs and refused to eat anymore of them. She said she would never eat the egg of a chicken that eats bugs. She said "even the thought of it grosses me out"...

It's all in the mind. Unfortunately, for some people, there's not much else in there besides silly thoughts like these.

Lol I had a person tell me that he could never eat farm eggs because he "doesn't know what the chickens might be out there eating... like bugs" and then he made a disgusted face. I decided to keep my mouth shut on that one......... we have horses and my chickens LOVE to pick through the manure piles. Never has bothered me when it comes to eating their eggs.

Oh my. Does she realize that all of the veggies she eats actually had bugs crawling on them at one time or an other? Or that they grew in soil full of worms???

Oh, puhleeze!! Do these citiots think cows aren't eating any bugs when they graze ... or do they think Bossy picks them off the blades of grass first, then puts them through a salad spinner? How about the bug/frog/turtle/rabbit/etc. poop that's on the grass, or the soil that the grass grew in? I've had to wash bird poop off my apples and tomatoes numerous times. Do they think the ones in the produce section at the store were grown in a hermetically sealed plastic bubble? Oh ... and, let's not forget pigs, catfish, lobster, and crabs! Then, of course, there's my personal fave: farm raised fish and shrimp!! Ye gads! They're raised in what amounts to a sewer; especially those from Thailand and China. Toilets are cleaner than those tanks. Yucko!

Throw some of these factoids at them, and they'll starve to death.

To be fair a lot of beef these days are raised on feedlots, and fed grain - which is cleaned before being fed to them - and a lot of the tomatoes available in the USA are grown hydroponically.

This is the sort of attitude people get when they're told 900 times a day that killing 99.8% of the germs in their kitchen just isn't enough, and they need that new cleaner to get to 99.9%

Yes they do.

A friend from Alaska used to run crab pots. He told me he quit eating crab because every time he pulled some out, they were crawling with some kind of maggot.

Well, how about the rats and mice crawling through the feed in the feedlots? Not to mention the waste from the cows eating grains they weren't designed to eat; they're standing knee deep in that stuff and the mice/rats are running through it, too. Give me a nice clean bug any day. At least it's full of protein.

I agree with you about the brainwashing of Americans; their brains have been washed so clean that there's no trace of common sense left. They're nothing but sheep being led to the cash register by marketing hype.

It'll never happen, because they'll have their eyes closed and their fingers in their ears and be singing: "LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA".
