My friend said theres no way your laying hens are laying eggs without a rooster, I told him he sneeks in at night, my friend said ,see I told you so.......

I love it!! Will definitely show her! She's a good sport she'll get a kick out of it!

I have not been able to read all 296 posts but I have had to correct a few people on the brown egg/white egg, rooster/no rooster, etc........ Facebook has been helpful to those curious or interested now in having a small flock of hens. I just tell people that encouraging them to have their own chickens helps---"eliminate factory chicken farming one backyard flock at a time"......usually that's just "nuff said".

It's nice to see more and more urban chicken keepers!
I was raised in the city/suburbs, so I know the mentality involved.

Someone told me that they could not raise chickens in the city because they were not allowed to have a rooster and without a rooster the hens would not lay eggs!

I was amazed how many people thought that, even my own parents think something like it. I think they think a hen lays an egg with out a yoke or something, from the conversation I had tonight with them. What is funnier still is that I knew better without anyone telling me so.

I've had someone tell me that Silkies are the worst mothers. I was like... uhh, no. They are the best. They insisted on it that they were the worst, and that they leave their nest and you have to be careful to make sure they don't eat their little ones.

He also said you have to "trim the hair back on its arse, so that they can deposit without getting it all through her arse hair."

He didn't sound so bogan when I was listening to him though, just really stupid. But after reading what I just wrote... I think he's both... :p

Okay, so I sent the picture (below) to a few friends and relatives because I was all excited that I was able to process my own chickens all by myself (me and hubby).

My sister-in-law told my mom-in-law that she was HIGHLY offended by this picture.
She said it disturbed her a great deal to see such horror.

The only reason I sent out that particular photo was because it was NOT gruesome.

Well, mom-in-law had to finally explain to me that the chicken is "outside" - "raw and exposed" -
and "not wrapped in cellophane the way chicken should be."
