:jumpyHi I had some questions about using dummy eggs.
I only have one hen right now laying, and was wondering if I should take the fake eggs out now since she’s already started?

I want to leave them in the nesting boxes so the others can figure it out when they’re ready.

And the second is...if I leave the fake eggs in there will they make a hen go broody?
Thank you so much for your answers or giggles at my silly questions

If I were you, I'd leave the dummies in there and bring breakfast inside. That way if an animal happens to walk in the coop, it won't find any eggs to eat so it won't be as temped tp come back. Although rat snakes have been known to eat golf balls.
Will it make her them go broody? I don't think fake eggs will make her go broody, but if she's feeling broody she will sit on the fake eggs. If you don't want her to be broody, take eggs from under her. Real or fake eggs. If she sits on fake eggs and you want her to hatch, swap fake eggs for fertile eggs during the night time. Hope this helped! :)

I have had fake eggs in mine since my first started laying. It has been over a month and I just leave them in there. I still have one left to go that is the late bloomer. Once they all are laying, I might take out the eggs.

I put my ceramic eggs back in when I find poop in the nesting boxes and of course with new layers ,

I’ve had to remove them from under a hen... not sure if she was just hiding it or hatching it??

I collect twice a day ,
I leave one in each box

I keep 1 golf ball in each nest at all times, and replace them if a snake or rat takes them.

Will fake eggs make a hen go broody? Well no and yes, if I want a hen to go broody I will increase by 1 the amount of golf balls in the nest each day. This can encourage a hen to go broody, but will not force her to. The hen/s will count them each time they come back to the nest, when there is enuf one may set down on them. At this time, at night, I take the golf balls and replace them with eggs..
