Just a note to check your feed if you are looking for animal protein. Unlike Chris09, I cannot get Purina game Bird Feed with animal protein in it. I've never used the Show feeds, but I thought they were medicated. A good although expensive option is Mazuri Game Bird which contains fish meal, but it is expensive.

I live in town so I feed Purina's flock raiser for ducklings and Layena for adults. Feeding animal protein makes smellier stools and therefore smellier backyards, a problem when you have neighbors. So yep, I feed vegetarian diet and the ducks happily munch bugs and worms as well.

I normally use Dumor feed just because it is a couple of dollars cheaper per 50# bat at my local TSC. My hens will eat pretty much whatever is in the feeder. The main problem that I have is the amount of dust. I was just filling the feeder yesterday and it seemed like a lot of dust in every scoop of feed (I feed pellets). If I have time and am making a large feed purchase, I actually prefer to buy Southern States brand of feed, it is cheaper than all of them and I feel that the quality is just as good, if not better.

The Purina Show Feed is Medicated but there is no with draw time.

Prestarter (30% protein) *Amporolium
Starter (26% protein) *Amporolium
Grower (24% protein) *Amporolium
Finisher (21% protein) *Amporolium

Mazuri which it put out my Land-O-Lakes (PMI Nutrition International/ Purina Mills) has to be one of the top feeds you can get hands down and the type of animal protein that is used depends on which stage and type you use.

Starter (30% protein) fish meal (menhaden), porcine meat meal
Maintenance (12% protein) fish meal (menhaden)
Breeder (20% protein) fish meal

* Amprolium as a active ingredient mimics thiamine which is needed for reproduction and normal growth of coccidia.
Amprolium has no withdraw for Meat or Eggs.

Note -- Amprolium also goes by the trade names Corid, Amprovine, and Amprol

Cant say that I have ever had a problem or read anything that states and proves animal proteins making for smeller stool in poultry.
What makes the stool smell in poultry is over feeing proteins.
