dumped bird

They look like my red sex links.

I have about 10 debeaked birds like that that were slipped in on me. I have to watch them very carefully because they do not free range as well as my flock with decent beaks so I make sure they can get to a deep dish of food every day and give them lots of other treats. But let me tell you, they lay the biggest eggs in my flock.

They have been debeaked. They cut them off in order to keep birds in very crowded conditions without them picking at eat other or even canibalizing one another.

Well bless you. That is awful that someone did that, but God was obviously watching out for them when he led them to your house.

They really look like my Golden Comets. They lay large dark brown eggs. So friendly and nice!

They are beautiful and like others have said will probably become brilliant layers!! With a bit of extra TLC on the feeding!!

I'm no expert, so don't quote me, but to me they look a lot like the "production reds" that are used at commercial egg farms for their brown eggs. They are routinely de-beaked because they are kept in small cages with multiple birds in each. The birds are usually shipped out for butcher after they reach a certain age because they aren't laying quite as well as they had been. It's possible that these escaped a truck?

Our first laying hens were white leghorns that were from a commercial egg farm. They were great layers.
