Dumpster Diving, don’t be ashamed..

DH just got back from a run to school. He got a bunch of 2x4s out of one of the dumpsters!! Yay!!! The other had been taken away. They just replaced the gymnasium floor but there was asbestos in the adhesive used to glue the old flooring down so that was hauled away immediately. Wouldn't have used it anyway.

This isn't the quite the same as dumster diving, but it is getting a great deal. We've been looking for vinyl flooring to put in our coop, and didn't want to put a lot in it. After months of looking, we checked the flooring section of a Lowes Hardware in another city, and saw some doubled over in the remnant section. We got guy from that dept and asked if he could give us a better deal since it was ruined for household use. He got approval to give us 75% off. It was approx. 12x15ft. He gave us a slip for $13. When we went to check out a manager was running the register, he looked at it and gave it to us for $3.65. Needless to say we were tickled.

My coop and run cost approx. 30.00 because it was made mostly of recycled material. I am always on the look out for material that someone is throwing out.

We were able to find a lot of salvaged wood at the local Habitat for Humanity recycled building supply store. Most of the wood & paint, and even some of the hardware for our 4 chick a-frame tractor was recycled. It's the only way to go - total cost $100.
