Duramycin-10

Oh... your poor chickens! I do hope the antibiotic works well for them.

Do they by any chance have a foul smell to the discharge from eyes, nose or mouth? I am hoping it is not Coryza which can be awful for them and it is contagious to all of the flock.

Whatever it is I trust they will all be back in full health very soon with the antibiotic.

No bad smell at all. I got my bantam EE over it in 4 days and he is perfectly fine now. I think it is a respiratory thing. Still awfully serious but I am hoping everyone gets over just as fast as he did. I just dont know if I should dose everyone or not. All I have is duramycin and some vit/min supplements. And then someone told me it was worthless giving them duramycin if they are on layer feed. Well my dh bought my feed last time and I dont normally feed layer becauseI have a mixed flock and he grabbed 2 bags of layer and put it inthe bins for me. He didnt know to check the tag to see what formula the feed was. So now I have 100lbs of layer that I didnt want in the first place,,,

Oh! I thought it was only my DH that made mistakes by purchasing incorrect feed and giving rabbit food to my chickens too!

I hope your chickens get well very soon ..- I have read that Duramycin is beneficial to chickens with respiratory disease - we seem only to have Tetracycline prescribed by our Vet here for chickens.

Thank you.. Yea it seems they want to help and mistakes happen and we move on lol.
If the duramycin doesnt help I plan on getting tetra, hopefully it is over quickly

What was the outcome of the treatment? Just starting treatment today with duramycin-10. 3 of my 20 hens (14 of those are 16 weeks) have clear nasal discharge. I'm trying very hard not to freak out! thanks!

Indeed, what was the outcome? I have lost 5 of 6 chicks to what I am fairly certain it was from cocci and a possible respiratory infection. the one I have left has been treated for cocci (7 days of corrid) but now has an eye shut with no foul odor. It is also shaking its head and wheezing a bit when still. I just today started it on Duramycin-10. Jeez, my first batch of chicks and they seem to have caught every dang thing.
