Dust bath for quail chicks

My quail chicks are 6 days old and are starting to bathe in in their food dish. Can I put some dirt/sand in with them or is it still to early for that?

It's totally fine. My chicks were just doing that too so I got a little container and filled it with sand/dirt and they loved it. They would eat it(as grit), scratch and play in it, and even sleep or sit and bathe in it. It's just a natural instinct so I think it's fine. Try it out. Just don't give them rich soil, just something kind of dry and sandy is a lot better.

Yep, you can put grit in a separate dish or box, you can even use wood shavings to bathe in. They will love it!
