The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Remember that serama hen I'd broken? Turns out she isn't THAT broke. She's been trying to get into the nest all morning to brood, and is getting pecked like crazy by Foureira; I guess Sassy really is an attribute

I have a broody again too. And tomorrow we are leaving for a summer vacation.

Poor chicken sitting neighbour.

Every year she was enthusiastic she could take out a few eggs every day. But when we came back after 2-3 weeks we had hardly any eggs and a lot of broodies.

Hope it goes better this year. The new playhouse coop is perfect to disturb a broody. It has two roosts and no laying nest.

Curious if the instructions will be followed up/work.

My daughter with green fingers (Dutch expression) comes 2x a week to water the plants and checks on red mites.

Questioning whether I should do individual day updates or not...

Either way, here goes today.

The other hen gave up trying to get in the nest at around 5pm today; Foureira pecked her good, but I thankfully don't see much on her. Foureira was very sleepy all afternoon, I'm assuming tired from guarding her nest for half the day.

Hopefully tomorrow is a calmer day, and little Foureira can relax a bit more

An eventful day today

The girls seem to have found a way to make it work. When Foureira gets up to eat, drink, preen and stretch, the other hen takes over. When Foureira is ready to return, (and with a few conving pecks) the other hen leaves and Foureira continues normally. Now, it's not perfect, and the other hen does need to be reminded she's only the nanny a few times throughout the day, but it went much more smoothly today than it did yesterday.

Foureira was also given her every other day pedicure today, at which point she flew right next to a Tsouloufati cockerel. The cockerel attacked, but thankfully Foureira ducked and was unharmed. The cockerel tried to ho in for a second kick, but he was flung away be me before he could land anything.

I candled her eggs today as well. It looks to me like we have 2 out of 2 developing! 1 definitely is, the other one I'm pretty sure is as well. PLEASE keep sending good hatching vibes/prayers, Foureira first, but also I, would really like to see this brooding end with a happy ending, and I know Foureira will be an amazing mother to her chicks.

Foureira was not very pleased with the whole candling thing, she pecked me good; I have a ploody top of my hand to prove it. Don't know who came up with that "women are weaker than men" bullcrap. The cockerels? I can outsmart. The hens? Yeah, good luck. If they want to draw blood, they draw blood
