Dust Bath Material

Hi I'm new to this...Getting my first 4 pullets in two weeks. I have hard clay like dirt & its February in NJ so ground frozen. Does anywhere sell pre mixed dust bath? I dont have a fireplace or wood stove & not sure if anywhere local sells sand this time of year?

Home Depot and Lowes sell sand. I'm sure any neighbors or co-workers would give you a bag of wood ash, or save you some. On a warmer day you could dig some dirt, and thaw it inside. My chickens usually do most of their dust bathing inside the coop in the shavings. It's their preference during cold weather.

I use wood stove ashes, sand, and Diatomaceous Earth in a big plastic tub, and they seem to love it. In fact, they are bathing in it right this minute!
