I have to replace mine periodically because they fill their feathers full of the sand/ashes/soil in their bathtub then get out before shaking it out of their feathers. It started with over 10 gallons of material and has been as low as a cup or so. That was when they were going outside much of the day on most days and I knew they were taking dust baths outside so I didn't check the tub.
They also kick quite a lot of bedding (mostly dried maple leaves) into the tub. When there are too many leaves, the sand/ashes/soil isn't very usable even when there is otherwise still enough.
