Dust bathing chicks

Just had to share...

Went out to clean the coop and was looking around for the broody and her babies. I spotted Topsy with her little Cocoa, but I didn't see Frosty anywhere. I started to panic when she suddenly popped up out of the dirt. I missed the really cool shot of her covered in dirt, but I grabbed my iphone camera and got these pics.





Here she is nice and clean again - lol!

When mine were small one buried herself in the bedding in the brooder with some help from one of her sisters. I walked in to check on them and one was missing. Another was scratching it the bedding then I noticed the missing ones head sticking up out of the bedding. The one scratching was "helpiing" the other cover herself. I tried to get my camera I kept handy but she popped up just before I got a pic.

I love watching the chickens dust bathe they are too funny. One time I started to exit our back door and noticed a big pile of dirt splattered all over the area. My DH thought one of the kids did it and started to complain when I informed him it wasn't the kids. LOL! It was one of the big Orps that had been dust bathing earlier - I could tell by the foot print in the dirt!
