Good point, Mountaintop! I probably should have mentioned that our ash piles are from burning brush, limbs, etc. from our property! Wouldn't want the girls rolling in toxic waste!!!

we burn wood heat when cold (like right NOW!) and I always wondered what to do with the ashes. Since we moved into the country the deer wont allow us to have roses, so...Now I'll be able to give it to my chickens! I can't wait till they get here.

Pure wood ashes from wood burning stoves or fireplaces...... anything else mixed in can be toxic...keeps bugs at bay on Poultry....

OK, I guess I'll burn yard waste separate from the junk mail, and only give the girls the safe ashes.
