You guys are dangerous for me-- so, I'm dusting off my incubator for the first time in a year.

Last Saturday we ate my MILs Blue Hamburg rooster. He was beautiful-- but, once he got his voice, he lost his brain. He crowed every thirty seconds all day and night. Literally.

So, she taught me how to butcher and dress, etc... and he was really good.

On a whim (mostly because of this forum) I decided to check the eggs from her hens for fertility. I wasn't expecting much, as he was a bantam type, and the hens that are laying are all Golden Comets-- so, imagine my surprise when I saw that 'target' sign of fertility.

And I like the thought of having Blue live on, in a way. He was stupid, annoying, and hid behind the hens when there was a threat (like chickadees), but he was *pretty*.

Right now I'm warming up my incubator. I'm mortified at how much I've forgotten. Last year I hatched about 40 chickens and 8 geese.. yet here I am, brushing up on temps. Sigh.

So, wish me luck. I wonder what the chicks (if any hatch) will look like!

Good luck !!!!! Hope you get lots of chickies
