Dying chicken, please help

Thank you and I completely agree! I grew up spending a few weeks each summer at my aunt and uncle's farm, they had lots of chickens, fed them mainly corn and scraps none of these specially forumated pellets and they seemed perfectly fine. This is our second chicken in 1.5 years we lost. I even took the first one to animal hospital and they could find no reason for her droopy wing and we put her down. Sooo tough!!!

So sorry to hear she didnt make it, its worse when you dont know why and wish you could have done more. I cant imagine how I would feel and I have only had my girls for 6 months, I have already had to deal with a respitory problem, diarrhea, moulting and broodyness, I thought it was easy to keep chickens but I worry all the time that they are OK,

Thanks everyone for your caring words, we got a replacement chicken so it helped my young kids adjust. Praying the rest of the flock stays healthy. We did wonder if she got some crumbs of rat poison we had in our wood pile when she flew the coup a few times. Not sure just a theory.

That's one big reason why you should never use poison to deal with rat/mice problems. The poisoned mice or rats can find their way into the chicken run and all it takes is a few curious pecks for your chicken to have second hand poisoning.
I'm a big fan of electronic rat traps. Zaps them dead, safer to use around pets/livestock, and you don't have to handle the dead critter.

I know I am just afraid of the bill. It's $75 just to get it then all the tests, might be looking at $$
I'm in the UK and maybe it's different here but we have a charity, the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) - they provide veterinary care and medicines for pets whose owners can't afford to pay privately. Is there anything similar where you are?

Or you can get a terrier! We have Basil, the Jack Russell x Manchester Terrier. He's a tremendous ratter :clap
