E-Bay Eggs On The Way!

Thank you for the information. I'm using it right now! My eggs came two days early! I'm so excited! They were suppose to come on Friday, but I don't mind them being early.

I'm still wondering whether these eggs would have a better chance in a newbies reptile incubator (it can be used as a chick incubator as well, it is actually very nice) or put under a silkie hen who may soil them or accidentally not cover them all (this morning she wasn't covering her eggs she is currently sitting on all the way). If I give her the orloff eggs I would put the eggs she is currently on in the incubator.

Any suggestions?

I've read that people don't have as good of luck with using a broody because of the air cell damage with shipping. I think the best thing to do is put them in the incubator for the first week, upright with pointy end down. Then if the air cells look solid, stick them under her. But I don't have a lot of experience with that, so I'm just guessing. :)

Post office called at 7:30 this a.m., eggs here! It's a miracle they arrived on the same day, the La Bresse eggs were suppose to be here a week ago, but the seller said her hens weren't co-oporating so it took another week to get enough eggs. The light browns are the La Bresse, the dark the Copper Marans and the green the Olive Eggers. Bless the seller of the Copper's and Olive Eggers, she sent me 3 extra evgs.

Thank you RubyNala for the shipped egg instructions, I think these eggs will hatch real good because I ordered them close enough to home that they were shipped by truck only and never went for an airplane ride. Those altitude changes on an airplane ride are best avoided for hatching eggs if at all possible.

Just for the heck of it, there's a local add on Craigslist for mixed breed fertile eggs, $3.00 a dozen, so I'm gonna make sure all 46 slots in my LG are filled up. :)

Congrats!!

The eggs are beautiful!

Thank you!

We decided to try the four healthiest looking eggs under the broody and the other four in the incubator, in hopes of getting at least a couple chicks out of it. We're also getting some bantam cross chicks in a few days and hopefully some pure-bred bantams from McMurray in a few weeks. I think my case of Chicken Math is progressively getting worse. LOL

I'm really happy the article was helpful!! It really helped improve my hatch rate with shipped eggs. I love shipped eggs because you can get exactly what you want from specific breeders. I hope everyone has a great hatch!

Eight eggs arrived!

However, my plans for putting them under a broody hen are halted by the fact every single one seems to have a displaced air-sac. I'm going to have to handle them and incubate them very carefully. Its a good thing I read that link or I wouldn't have known any better, so thank you again!

None of them appear cracked in the least, which is awesome. There was some chicken poop on them, but just a tiny bit. I'm guessing the seller didn't want to wash them off and risk removing any protective coating. The eggs are also not the best of shapes, they are a bit small and some are skinny. This is probably because it is nearing the end of the breeding year, so I can forgive that as well. I really hope they hatch!

I'll try to get a picture up of the eggs soon.
