Ah well that's a relief. Can't imagine how frustrating it'd be if you couldn't store the 'books' you'd bought.

ipods hold only so many songs, so much variety... but it's not likely you'd be reading 100's of books at once so it works well for that kind of system... you can get on with a small storage capacity that way.

I have the Kindle app for my iPhone, and I love it. Books are reasonably priced, there is even a good selection of free books. I love being able to read where ever I may be when I have to wait, because I always have my phone on me so I don't have to carry a separate device. I love not filling up my house with more books (I already have a ton). I love to read in bed without a light on. I love buying books from my cozy bed. I love being able to re-read books over and over anytime I want without having to search through my bookshelves for them.

I used to want a kindle so badly, but once I got the app for my phone (it is also available on ipod touch, ipad and now on your pc or mac), I realized I don't really need to spend a couple hundred bucks on one.

The kindle (at least the version I have) can hold 1500 books. I'm not anywhere near that number yet but if there was too much for me to keep on my kindle or if I just want to remove a book from my device, they stay on my account at amazon for me to reload on my kindle whenever I want.

The reason for it not being backlit isn't just to conserve the battery but to prevent the eyestrain that many people experience from staring at backlit screens like computers for long periods of time.

I have an iPhone and have the Kindle app and LOVE it - I can be anywhere and have a new book to read in just a few clicks. I can read anywhere I have to wait in a line and it is always with me all I need to carry is my phone! No trees killed for me to buy a book, no need to dust books on shelves! It is backlit - unlike the kindle - so I can read it camping or anywhere else - light or no light. With the iPad out there are even more options becuase Apple has its own e-books. The nice thing about the iPhone is that there is a Kindle app, a Barnes and Noble eReader app and now the Apple books store - so if one company doens't have the book I want I can always use on of the other apps - they are all free - so all I pay for is the book

One more note - my mom has a Kindle - she got it this year - she is 79 and within a week she had it all figured out and never has been able to use a computer - so we weren't sure she would like it or be able to use it. She loves hers and I have to say for her the Kindle was a perfect solution.

My boyfriend recently got the Nook and loves it (the 3G version, it isn't much more expensive and you can download books without having wifi - you pay for the book but you don't have to pay for the 3G). He also bought a leather cover that opens and closes so it has a book look/feel to it. I like the touchscreen part on his Nook also.
I have Amazon's reader on my iPod Touch and it works fine but I wouldn't want to use it all the time for reading. The size of the Nook is just better for that.

I use the Barnes and Noble ebook app for my ipod. They have a small selection of free books and I like being able to read it when I'm waiting in line or something.

Generally, I don't like the idea of ebook readers because they're so expensive to purchase and buying the books is expensive. I guess that wouldn't be an issue if you already make regular purchases of new books, but I'm a voracious reader and I borrow books by the dozens every week from the library. I'd go broke trying to buy all those new.
