Eagle Catches Deer!!

Wow! That was cool! I also was looking at a couple of you other videos. Did you ever figure out how to cover your run? And did you ge the other hawk? And what really killed the little hawk you had there? Do you think maybe the big one?

I can't remember where it was but either the Discovery channel or National Geographic channel had a show on that was similar. These guys would travel on horseback with trained eagles and go up to the top of a hill and search for wolves. Then they send the eagles down to grab the wolves till they got down the hill. I'll see if I can find a video clip on youtube of it.

Here is a video of it and in the information on the side it explains the history of the tradition.

Their mongolians that train those Golden Eagles. They use them to hunt everything from wolves to deer. They are an incredably powerfull bird. I found the full version clip, where mommy goat gets revenge!

Wow... I need to get one of these birds. This clip shows golden eagles bringing down full grown wolves. That's just insane... that would definitely clean up the coyote population around here... I would be afraid the darn thing would eat my dog.

We still dont know what really happend to the little hawk... either the bigger hawk killed it..or my roos killed it... we still dont know.. it was very weird, to say the least..
When we looked closer at the little hawk..he did have wounds on both sides of his neck... so we're not sure what exactly happend to him..

I know! What if they turned on their owners.... wouldnt want one of those coming at my face... *shivers*
Birds of prey must really be smart if they can be trained like that....

What i cant figure out is..why the birds dont just fly away...? Do they have them attached to long ropes or something?? Dumb question, i know..

because i've seen them at bird shows and such with these leather cuffs around one leg...

That falconer needs a boot in the butt...the hooves on deer are like razors and it could easily kill a bird. And no that is not normal prey for a eagle that is a taught kill. Sad and stupid.

redhen...the bird is trained to return...usually to a whistle or hand signal.

RE: the strength of an eagle...a full grown eagle can take down and kill a man with little to no trouble. In our traditions, their were eagle catchers...it was a very revered position but also more dangerous than hunting buffalo. The caught ceremonial birds following a huge ceremony...not a job I would have ever wanted.
