Oh wait! I think I get it? The mites on the legs are draining blood so earlobes are losing the blood to send it to the area needing it. Is this sounding right?

No the color of the ear lobe like that has nothing to do with scaly leg mites.
Don’t confuse a heavy parasite load with paleness in the face. By that point the bird would be acting lethargic and sick.
