Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Where are good places to buy hatching eggs?

I'm just curious cuz it seems like most do that route. I've seen on CL sometimes people sell them but not any breeds I knew much about. But now that I'm getting a bator, I may want to try buying eggs to hatch!

I'm using a more local group on Facebook to get my eggs this time. The farm I am picking them up from is less than 20 min from me and I can pick them up whenever I want. I just got a message from the gal asking if I could also grab some for another member of the group and so she may meet me in my town to pick them up. To me, that means a lot in the realm of trust with this group. Many of these people have done business with each other in the past and I will see people giving references for those whom they've purchased from in the past.

Butterfliesdoku, I am happy with my Magicfly! Just got it and the manual is poopy like everyone says. I read other posts on here and they're very helpful with info, but actually it's pretty simple set up and I haven't done a thing but plug it in and monitor temp with a second thermometer: very consistent.

What is a staggered hatch? Is it like putting in more eggs in the bator while a first hatch is going

The first dozen are unpacked and resting. One was broken and 4 have saddle shaped air cells - despite the best packing I have ever seen.

Here is an example of the notes I keep (using an excel spreadsheet):
Second Hatch - Set on 1/14/16 Farm Inovator 4200 Forced Air/Auto Turner
Initial Eggs: 12 Sal Fav & 12 LF BBS Cochin
Initial Culls: 1 Sal Fav - broken when received

I also keep notes on top the incubator noting temp and humidity at various points each day.

What is a saddle air sac?

Thanks - my memory is not what it used to be so the notes help me a lot

. A saddle shaped air cell occurs when the cell detaches ( which can happen in shipped eggs) and it literally looks like a little saddle sitting at the top of the egg. It can still recover and hatch but I like to note it.

Great notes @coopdedoo@. That is what I did on my last hatch. Does anyone here weigh their eggs as well for weight loss? I think that is something I am going to do this round since I'm not dealing with shipped egg air sac issues.

I did it a couple of times on the last hatch but I was afraid I was keeping the eggs out too long because I had so many. I did not notice a big difference on two weigh checks.
