Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

This makes a VERY nice brooder and can double as a hospital or isolation for new chicks.

Based on space needs I think I am going with the 4 panel (square) and then will buy the 2 extra panels to make it 6ft x 3ft. Great idea on the sick/isolation pen. It could also be used as a mating pen!

Quote: The last several years I used a large plastic tote with a clip on heat lamp. I figured I get something better this year since I have 2 incubators running right now. I think I'm going to get a rubber mat to put down in the floor then put wood shavings in on top. I have rubber mats in my coops to keep the plywood from taking in all the poop. I just rake the bedding out into the wheel barrow and then pressure wash the rubber mats.

I needed to move an egg so I could add water without opening the incubator.... and one thing led to another... and I candled a couple of eggs, well a few.... okay I candled 7. Bless me Father *crosses self*

The results: In 4 I could see something - the other 3, maybe a blood ring or maybe the air cell. I noted the egg number on my notes and now I really am going to wait until day 10 this weekend.

I'm starting the philosophy that if I need to get in there for something, then I need to be sure what is actually going on in there!

Can I join this hatch-a-long? I have my first duck eggs due to arrive today or tomorrow and I'm sure I can use all the help I can get!

So.... chicken math strikes again. I need a cheaper incubator that can hold more than 7 eggs. I figure that I will hatch my pricier eggs in the Brinsea and my other ones in something less expensive. Suggestions? It seems like all the reviews have pros and cons on every model. I don't want one with a wafer-thingy because I attempted a hatch last year with a borrowed one and could not for the life of me figure it out. Like I could not even figure out how to put it together.

How many does it need to hold? The stryofoam ones ( farm innovator, hova bater, etc) tend to be cheaper but require more attention. There are a few new types but on Amazon but it seems they are not getting very good reviews. You can pick up a still air without turner around $60.
