early hatchers question

my son opened the egg just after the chick pipped through, the chick just laid there for hours but it seems fine now, its very little
 
I remember this same question from yesterday too.

You have to understand that just because the chick has pipped that does not mean it will hatch in the next few hours. Often they can take 24 - 36 hours to actually come out of the egg. Taking a chick out of the egg without waiting the proper time for it to hatch and begin to exercise and work its lungs could cause it to die later from unseen causes. Those last few hours are when the blood is absorbed from the egg membrane, the yolk is absorbed and the lungs finish ripening.

Unless you know a chick is in trouble and it is after day 22 I would suggest you sit on your hands, close that bator and keep the humidty at 70%. If you have other chicks waiting to hatch opening your bator could jeopardize those eggs.
