Early morning attack, Please help!

@AmyJane725, thank you and I am so sorry for your loss also. Been doing this for almost 5 years now and I am still amazed at how these little souls work their way into your life and your heart.

@hispoptart Thank you, sweetie. :hugsYou fought the good fight and so did Marty. Your care was beyond the call of duty and straight from the heart. There are folks here on BYC with more medical and or veterinary experience than you could ever imagine and I would follow their advice without hesitation.

You gave Marty time she wouldn't have had if you had just "left her alone". Her little body was just too injured to repair itself. Rest assured. She made the decision for you.

I hope you catch whatever varmint did this to your hen, and find comfort in the fact that we all have forgotten to lock that darned coop door one time or another. Spend some time with your remaining flock. Toss them some treats and talk to them. I imagine they are missing you right now.

Thank you so much for your support and kind words. Today has been an exhausting day and I have been a blubbering mess.

Sorry to hear lost 2 hens to a coon... I finally had enough when it attacked our cat so I got rid of coon... I now have a much better coop and make sure I lock them up at dark!...I also got a rooster

I'm sorry for your loss, I am not positive it was a coon, the track we found looks like one to us. I set up a trap last night and sprinkled flour all along the fence line in hopes of catching whatever it was or getting some better prints, but nothing this morning, and yes I will make sure they are locked up every night from now on.

Awe I'm sorry for you loss. RIP Minnie :hugs
Thanks :hugs
Tragic losses like this are just part of chicken keeping I think. One day you're on the forums consoling someone on the loss of their beloved pet, and the next day they're on your thread where you're lamenting the death of your own bird. I don't think there's a chicken keeper alive who hasn't dealt with stuff like this at one point or another.

Stay strong, and don't beat yourself up over any decisions. You had a very rough time and you did your best. That's all that could be expected of you. Even if you had left her be she probably would have died anyway, so don't second guess yourself or feel guilty. I had a very bad feeling when I saw her neck initially, but I was trying to remain hopeful, but if you had asked me honestly I'd have said she'd probably be a goner. I don't think giving her water had anything to do with her dying.
