Early pip?

It’s halfway through Day 18 on my first time hatching eggs, and one has an external pip!

Does this early pip mean I’ve done something wrong with the hatch? I’ve increased the humidity once I noticed the pip. I wasn’t expecting any action so soon!

what kind of eggs?

it's also hard to see depth in the pic, is the pip closer to the point end, round end, or middle?
They are Polish eggs. It's closer to the round end. I set them with the air pocket up last night, and the pip is in the air pocket!

I'm also reasonably sure I have the day right. I set them Sunday, April 27 at 2000 and today is Friday, May 16 1130 (so tonight at 2000 would be Day 19 if I am doing this right).

Also, you’re right, I have battled with the incubator over temperature. It’s borrowed from a friend. I’ve had to make daily adjustments. There have been times I’ve measured it as high as 101 F and had to bring it down a bit. Could that be why this is an early pip?

Ok. Hopefully it survives. Is it 24 hours from external pip to hatch usually? Is assistance advised after 24 hours and not before?
yes and no. I've seen it go both ways, people assisting too early and things not going well, or going in too late and then there's a fully formed and very dead bird. I would help if the blood vessels are empty and the chick is not making a chewing motion with its beak anymore, or if the chick seems like it needs help.

Ok, thanks a million! What an adventure haha.
