why are people so negative? This isn't political. It's a neat, global event. Maybe people don't understand me. I have an engineering degree in earth and atmospheric sciences with a minor in oceanography. But, if you think I love Al Gore and his political propaganda, think again. He is full of it. That hard, scientific facts are that we have no idea if anything humans have done or are doing is aiding the increase in global temperature. Over the history of the earth, the temps have always fluctuated this much. We are on a natural upswing now and we may have nothing to do with it. Of course, we might be contributing, but we don't actually know. That's the truth of the matter, but the media and the government don't want you to know that. I hate the media. I also voted republican, because I am generally a fiscal conservative. I don't think either party has much merit, though.
But, the real truth of the matter is that doing things like burning coal for power and manufacturing all kinds of goods, etc, is most certainly polluting the earth. Maybe not heating the planet, but the pollutants cause beathing ailments, allergies, etc. They also get into our water and our soils and then contaminate the very food we eat. Habitats are being destroyed, etc. Why wouldn't we all want to tread as lightly upon this wonderful earth as possible? This isn't about politics... it isn't about propaganda, it's about doing our best - like raising our own chickens for food, and growing our own gardens, etc. So many of us on here do it because we care what goes into our bodies and how the animals are treated. Earth Hour is no different. It's getting together, globally, without politics, for one hour, to show that we all want to make a difference work toward a better future. So, mock it if you want, but I see absolutly no need. Don't participate if you don't want to, but why be so negative?
