Earthquake!

I've lived through two tornados in my day. One at home, totaled my playhouse and tore siding and shingles off the house. Another came up and I took the truck to a carwash, I didn't want it to get totaled from the hail

Not the smartest place to be, but the truck didn't get a single dent

The 1887 earthquake that shook Arizona and Sonora was estimated to be a 7.2. It did considerable damage. Adobe does not hold up well in a shake. It was a good time to be living in a wikieup. Nobody was living here then but Indians, Mexicans and Mormons. Phoenix was not much then, nor was Mesa.

The quake produced a tsunami of sorts in the Sea of Cortez.

I have always heard the story of "el barco encallado," about a steam boat that washed up one of the rivers in Sonora during the quake. It was left stranded miles from water. The Indians salvaged the metal from it to make comales for cooking.

I have looked and looked on "Google Earth," trying to find this boat. No luck yet. The resolution is not fine enough, or maybe it isn't there anymore.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow I will find it.

The one that just happened in Mexicali? It as all over the news hear and on CNN. Not sure why it wouldn't have been talked about in SA.

Maybe 'cause it didn't much damage. It was a big earthquake, but there isn't a large city near the epicenter, so we just shook and called it good.
