Earthworms!

I just want to say how fascinating and fun it is to watch my hens find earthworms! A few of them are amazing in that they see and grab the worms when I can’t see the worm at all - so cool! My best worm hunters are my three black sexlinks. Chickens are so much fun.

Not related to chickens but..

I have an old Rouen duck who will follow robins around the yard and once they find a worm she will charge them and pick there catch up. She is quite a clever duck.

I'm glad something likes to eat worms. It's usually just a hen or two here that delights in scratching them up, but the ducks eat them like they're a gourmet treat. I've tried to pull worms out of the ground for the fowl, only to find half squirming in my hand (eww)...ducks and chickens are much better at getting them out whole!

I like earthworms, but I'd have to be pretty darned desperate to eat one of those rubbery creatures.

One time my friend and I were digging earth worms and I was talking about how gross they are...... the next time he pulled one up he took a bite!

I love watching our birds chase beetles on summer evenings. They hope and jump around missing way more than they catch, but when one is successful, all the others come running and the she becomes the chased.
