Easter Bean-feast Hatchalong

Pics
We're at the point where I can't keep track of who's who, or even how many chocks are hopping around the incubator!

Pulled the second batch of dry fluffs out of the incubator. So far we have 28 chicks in the brooder, 1 freshly hatched chick in the incubator, 2 nearly fully zipped eggs and 2 eggs that are getting serious about zipping. Two more buckeye eggs hatched! Which brings us to 31 chicks so far.

#35 Charro, #25 Green Bean, #27 Lima, #46, #34, #23, #30 Garbanzo, #38, #31, #1 Mister, #46, #21, #17 Navy Bean, #37 Coffee Bean, #55 Teddy, #48, #44, #41, and #39 confirmed by empty shells pulled out.

3-Bean had been zipped 360° for about 12 hours with no further progress so I was afraid she was stuck. I pulled her out of the incubator and moistened the membrane/helped loosen/tear it with a q-tip and she hatched within a few minutes of going back in the incubator.

We're up to 12 babies in the incubator now. With the 28 in the brooder that brings us up to 40 chicks! And there are still zipped and pipped eggs in the incubator that I think will do just fine.

:love that's the cutest pile of beans I've ever seen! 😍
Welcome beanie babies! :frow

I had to be at work at 8am today, so I can't keep an eye on the incubator today. Husband says no one else has hatched since I left, but he's still seeing movement so we're not done yet.

Sadly, egg #14 Chickpea didn't make it. She pipped yesterday morning and I was concerned about her because I saw what looked like some fluid around the pip. I pulled the egg before work this morning and confirmed that she had passed.

More sad news, #4, #13, #15, #19, and # 53 all pipped but got stuck and died in the shell. #11, #18, #22, #24 haven't pipped. We candled and there were no internal pips that we could tell but since I felt like we waited too long to intervene with the other 6 that pipped but died in the shell I went ahead and drilled a hole over the air cells just in case. We'll leave them in the incubator until tomorrow and see what happens.

I did assist 2 that had zipped but got stuck, but I can't remember which eggs those were. One of them was definitely shrink wrapped, the membrane had pulled away from the inside of the shell all around. They'll hang out in the incubator for at least a few more hours, maybe overnight, to gain their strength.

An overall 75% hatch rate isn't bad, I'm pretty happy with that. I'm a little sad about the ones that zipped and didn't make it, but now I know for next time to go ahead and intervene a little sooner.
