Sorry everyone!!! Sunday was a blur because we were so busy and things happened really fast with the eggs! I went to bed at midnight the night before and no pips before bed. At 4 am, I checked and 4 of the candy corns had pipped. Then by 7 am, 3 of those had hatched!! It was #20 Parsnip @GracePoultry #29 Cherry @Cheekychook12 and #25 Pancake @Dominique King .
Then finally in the afternoon around 2 pm the 4th pipped egg hatched. It was #19 Chalupa @Chicken_Obsesser
At this point, I was starting to get worried, because none of the other eggs had pipped externally yet.
I put safety holes in each egg but did it really quickly and didn’t have time to check each one to see if they were internally pipped. Some of them were definitely peeping though.
A couple of hours later when I finally had the time, I started assisting them, because it was pretty obvious that they weren’t going to hatch on their own. I was too late to help a few of them, they were dead in the shell. I noticed that a few of the beaks were kind of weird, so I wondered if maybe that is why they couldn’t pip out.
But the good news is, that I was able to help 6 of the babies and they all made it out okay!! One baby however, was not internally pipped, and had a very hard time. I thought for sure it wouldn’t make it out of the shell. But it did!! However, it has kind of a small eye on one side! So I don’t know if that is the extent of the deformities or if there may be others. It’s much smaller than the other chicks. That chick is #30 Chia @Mill Chick I am thrilled that baby is still with me, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t make it in the long term. But it is soo cute and sweet!!! And definitely a fighter to have survived this long!
The other chicks that I was able to assist and they hatched were #21 Truffle @Strawberry74 #23 Chickpea @tviss711 #24 Muffin @HonkABC and #28 which I have named Ravioli.
They are soooo cute!!!! I have never hatched out Polish before, and wow they are darling. I could watch them all day long. I’m sorry I don’t have individual pics of the polish chicks - they all look sooo much alike and I didn’t mark them at hatch. But I will share some group pics, and also some pics of Chia which is the runty chick with the little eye. (First 3 pics) In total there were 10 Polish who hatched and they are all amazingly doing very well despite a rough hatch for some of them!! Also putting up a group pic of the Olive Egger batch!
