We have 2 Easter Eggers...

Cutie was hatched in my son's classroom. I was told the eggs came from three arauana hens but there was also a barred rock hen who used the same nest & laid brown eggs, too. (The roosters are all araucana).

Cutie at 3 days old...coming home for the first time...beginning of April...

Hoping both are pullets (pretty sure Daisy is). No crowing or eggs yet, so fingers are still crossed. Nice chickens and not nearly as vocal as our Barred Rocks.

Schatze17, I'm thinking that Cutie is a female. By looking at the second picture when "it" was 3 1/2 weeks old. My pullets' feather growth looks just like that around that age, but not the males that don't have tail feathers or feathers down the breast. Very beautiful, reminds me of my EE.

Hi everyone,
This is a great thread - thank you EastinChickens for starting it! I am new to chickens and the BYC website but I did notice that EE's are not a very popular topic LOL. I have ten 7-week old pullets and three of them are EE's. I think they are great and we are so looking forward to pretty egg colors! Here are my girls:

Up until a few days ago, I thought that Feathers was a white rock! My friend gave her to me when she was 3 days old (she didn't know what breed it was). I thought it looked just like my white rock chicks until I noticed that she had green legs ... and then a few days ago I realized that she was growing a muff! What a great surprise to have another Easter Egger.

So Victoria doesn't seem to have a muff, does this mean that she isn't really an Easter Egger? Her tail feathers also stand straight up and I am hoping that that doesn't mean roo???

Victoria looks like a Speckled Sussex. Most of my pullets hold their tails straight up and the roosters hold theirs down. Victoria looks like a pullet to me

You can look online at feathersite.com and they have photographs of all the chicken breeds and the chicks of those breeds. Pretty chickens!

Oh my gosh, I think you are right about Victoria being a Speckled Sussex! I ordered one SS and two EE's ... one of the chicks died and I thought it was the SS, but now that you say that I am realizing that it was the other EE that died. I thought it was the SS because the two that survived looked the same (chipmunk stripe, coloring, etc.) and the one that died had the chipmunk stripe but the coloring was darker. I assumed that all EE's would look the same as chicks but as I've been poking around this website I've realized how different they can all be. Thanks for setting me straight, chickee! And although I am sad that I only have two EE's, I am happy to have the SS.

Well, I'm glad that Feathers ended up being an EE so that I still have two EE's. My friend who gave her to me didn't know what she was at the time!

Lucky you!
