Easter Egger club!

Thanks @junebuggena That's good to know. You had some grey or blue feathered birds, didnt you? I don't seem to have any blue birds, or greys. But I do understand that doesn't have anything to do with egg color. But might be indicative of the crosses used.

I sure do like these birds from Ideal so far. Been healthy and adaptable beasties! Never a stutter in growth or vigor. Even the Marans and Austrolorps are pretty calm and docile. Feathered out and big already. Not show birds, but solid. Can't argue with the price either.

I guess I'll just try keeping a varied selection and work from there.

Coloring your eggs before their layed, huh? Well, Chicken Myths aside, the appearance of the bird is not an indication of what color her eggs will be. You're better off looking at what color shell the egg she came from was. That, at least will tell you what egg color genes mama contributed. But as with just about everything else concerning EEs, it's a crap shoot.

Or would that be an "Easter egg hunt"? :p

No Blue.
These are my originals. Snow, my gigantic 8 pound hen.

Crazy Cocoa, who was petite 4.5 pounds. Lost to a coyote that chewed its way into the coop.

And King Tut.

The two pullets in this shot are Snow/Tut offspring. The cockerel is a Tut grandson, mother is Snow.

such pretty birds!

Since I got mine from Ideal as day old chicks, no way to know what color eggs they came from, so . . . . I'll just do as I said and try keeping a variety of them, basing selection on appearance. i hope my red cockerel looks as handsome as King Tut!

:th King Tut it GORGEOUS @junebuggena

@NorthTexasWink, try to make a guess at what breed is in the bird bloodline. Solid blue birds could have either marans, blue ameraucana, or both in their blood, and wheaten colored birds (or similarly colored) probably will lay blue. I have an EE girl from Cackle that's mostly blue, and her eggs are green with brown speckles. :love
Look at the head shape too. I've got a couple girls that just scream "leghorn" just by looking at their type - and their colors match my suspicion too.

Hi all!
Noticed this was for Easter egger so hopefully nobody minds me hanging out.
I have one EE at this time ( the rest of my flock is BO and RIR with my current additions being crossed between a BO hen and a RIR rooster).
This is Peek A Boo ( Boo for short- long story on how Boo got his name but the just of it is he would hide then reappear out from nowhere)

The rooster next to Boo is his buddy Roo ( BO rooster).

Thank you on both.
:thumbsup
Boo is also a handful, worse than a little child! It's so frustrating when Boo decides to be a pain more than a help and when I move him so I'm able to finish weeding he's right back there in my way plus sometimes he even brings Roo and some of the hens.
