Easter Egger club!

image.jpeg image.jpeg 2 out of my flock of four are EE's :) Princess Laya and Hen Solo (aka Laya and Henny)
Laya is all white, which looks very pretty with her green legs :) She has been the leader of the flock since the day we brought them home from the farm store as little chicks. They are 20 wks now, Laya was the first to lay at 17 wks.
Henny has always been the most skittish. We call her "Henny the Honker" because her little "bocs" sound like honks, lol. The run fence is only 4' high so we have to keep their wings clipped, but that doesn't stop Henny! Even the morning after a wing clipping, we'll find Henny on the other side of the fence, honking away

I really like the coloring of your birds! Definitely part of what makes Easter Eggers so fun, you never know what you are going to get.

As it has been with all of our chickens, they named themselves. Olaf didn't quite have her footing on day one and she sat there like a frumpy snowman with big cheeks, so the name stuck. Immediately the other one became Sven and it fits her personality :)
My kids named all of ours. Some of them are really fitting, and others not so much. Boys: Odin a leghorn; Steve was a buff orp we though was a girl, but her name was always Steve,;and Willie, a bantam bboe, whose name was originally Thor. Our girls: Loki, black australorp; Jaiden, delaware; Ziva, Abby, and Kate (deceased), Amber browns; Klaus & Nibbler, tetra browns; Jackie, patridge rock; Ash, bantam sebright & our eggers, Olive, Damon, Butters and Dean... Willie and Jackie are the only ones whose names have changed since we got them. Of all of them, I think Odin's name fits the best.

I have eggers, but no egger roo, kinda wish I'd gotten one b/c they're so pretty, plus the idea of having egger babies is nice. If we keep our cockerel (leghorn) and he were to have chicks w/ one of the eggers, what would the offspring lay, provided they're female? Is it a surprise, or will they also lay colored eggs?
We ended up w/ 3 guys and and the bantam and leghorn were apparent cockerels early on, but my buff orp was almost 18 weeks before he started acting like a roo. The older 2 were not happy about the new competition and drama ensued. I ended up giving him away to some guy who wanted him for breeding. Now the leghorn and bantam seem to have a mafia like arrangement. The little guy starts squawking and the big guy comes to deal w/ the problem. It's an interesting dynamic, but I think their arrangement only works b/c the one is a bantam and it's clear he can't take on the guy 5x his size.
I remember from researching lamonas (almost extinct chicken breed) that the roosters pass on the laying ability of their breed to their daughters. So a leghorn/ee cross would lay pretty dang well! :)

So it's possible for a bird to have the puffy cheeks and beard of a egger, but not get the blue egg gene? When a larger hatchery sells eggers is it's possible that a bird that's marketed as an egger but lay white eggs?
I had an EE who laid little tiny white eggs. And i currently have one who lays dark green with brown spots! :love

Really? That would be great. Right now I'm getting blue eggs from somebody and randomly getting shell-less eggs from what I believe is an Egger based on the shape of the egg. I'm not sure if it's because it's a new layer or if it's the same one who is laying the blue eggs. I did get a shell-less the same day that I got a blue egg so I think I have at least 2 eggers laying or trying to. We're anxious to see what we get from the other 3. We have 12 girls and the most we've gotten so far is 6 eggs.

Laying shell-less eggs is normal for the first week of the laying cycle. If you see them consistently when they're more mature, it could be a sign of an underlying problem. That isnt common though. ;)
Hehe, enjoy a 50% count while it lasts! Ive got almost 40 girls, some of which are still too young to lay and 3 of which are getting older, but we average at about 14 a day. -_- It just ain't right!

Oh wow, that would make me batty. I was told by a coworker who had chickens for years that not all of them will lay every day, which is all well and good, but if my ornamental web right bantam can manage 5 eggs a week, I feel like my (supposedly) high laying tetra browns can make the same effort from time to time. It seems like when one starts laying another decided to take a break. I got a very light colored egg yesterday and it's either from the australorp or Delaware. But still only 5 eggs. Not bad when you don't want inundated w them, but I have a few ppl who want to buy and I'm not selling the egger or bantam eggs bc they are small, so 3-4 eggs a day isn't quite enough to share.

Your Tetras should be laying daily, if they are getting proper nutrition. Might need to up their protein intake.

:goodpost:

Out of the three bantams I've ever had, my two cochin banties could out-lay a standard easy as pie. Izzy'z eggs competed with some of the smaller CQ eggs too! :th

We're getting alot of small ones too.... The babies are just starting to lay, still working on the size though.

There's a updated pic of my EE, Boo. He's almost as big as his buddy, Roo. Seeing how I don't know what color egg he hatched from because he was given to me I don't know what egg color he would pass on to his children. All I know is his legs look to be the same color as some of my hens, I can't say all of my hens seeing how there's a few that have bright orange (almost the coloring of a ducks) legs.
