I got my trio of EEs - one is a rooster, very calm and unusual. Almost 6 month old and no EE eggs yet. But any day now. I love them! The funny thing I noticed about mine is that they like to eat different kinds of food, compared to other chicken. Like the marigold leaves, the other chicks would run away from the smell of the leaves while EEs couldn't get enough. But few weeks later, just pure chicken greediness lead to all of the chicken wanting and devouring marigolds - I heard the plant prevents parasites. It's fun to see how they all interact.

So I am trying to make a decision for flock additions for the Spring. I want to add some colored eggs into my mixed dozens. So I am researching EE's versus true Ameraucanas.

How many eggs do you get a week with your EE? What color are your eggs usually?

Thanks for the feedback

My EE lays about 6 eggs a week. They are khaki green. She is 30 weeks old. My two Ameraucanas are 16 months old. One gives me a true blue egg 5 a week, the other only lays maybe once a week and it's peachy/pink.

You will on average get more eggs from EE than purebred ameraucana. It depends on the bloodline and color in ameraucanas.I have both and egg color on ameraucana are mostly shades of blue with some green tint.EE mostly shades of blue to olive and sometimes brown or tinted cream. Each breeder has their own priorities when breeding. My self I put egg laying near the top of the list.Really competitive bloodlines are seldom great layers.Buff often lay greenish eggs. Some lavender lines are still green.

TaraBellaBirds: I have 5 EEs. With all variety colors of eggs. From Baby Blue, aquamarine, slatey blue green to almost an olive green. Your EE's will be a mixture of different breeds and that is sort of the fun part of EEs. Their personal bloom will determine your egg color varieties. With the variety and what their crossed with comes their egg productivity. I have 1 that will lay 5-7 a week and another that is every other day or every two days at best.

Myself now, I'm looking to add a dark brown egg to my flock...But that's chicken math for ya. Sneaky business.

Thanks Bogtown Chick. With help from owners of both breeds I think that for now EEs are the best fit for us. I like the idea of having pure bred birds but right now I just don't have the time to devote to breeding several different types of birds. So just for some color and variety, plus they are lovely, I plan to add some more EE's to my existing flock.
