Been trying to inter grate our 4 in with the BSL & RIR the RIE are mean and peck every chance they get, the whole process up until now has been 3 weeks and the still want to chase and peck them. Is by the end of the week the big girls aren't nicer told hubby I'm going to build them their own coop, we have a kids wooden playhouse that will work great
I had to seperate my polish from my mix flock b/c they were being mean. Also I have turned a old kids playhouse into a coop/run too, well started anyway. Lol! A truck I figured out after building a coop and seperating my trouble makers is to go in first b/4 you add the new chickens. Catch the mean chickens and tie there legs together and put them out in the run or coop, where ever you notice them being the meanest.(place them in the shade or do it on a cooler morning) then turn the new chickens into the coop run and feed them right around the mean tied up chickens with there fav snack or treat. The mean chickens are laying on the ground with there legs tied and chant chase the new chickens while the new chickens eat all the yummy food. Leave the mean chickens tied up for 10 to 20 min. Then turn them loose. You might have to do this a couple times but polish caught on quick. They they are fine. I have to do them same thing every time I add a new chicken but it works great for me. Good luck!
Quote: How does it help? Can't you just put the mean chickens in a cage instead of tying? I'd be afraid of hurting them! I have four 14 week old pullets and I have two 4 week old chicks. I'm putting them outside in the coop with the big chickens all day, but I bring them in at night. I have to put tons of boxes with little doors in them to keep the little chicks from getting bullied too much. Right now the little chicks just race from one hiding place to the next because the older chicks are mean. I really just want the to get along and leave each other alone, but the big chicks won't stop.
I need them to like each other soon because one of the little chicks is a roo and I'm going to have to exchange him for a different chick soon and I'm worried that the other little chick will be lonely. The 2 chicks always hate being separated.
