Easter Egger club!

Mine started laying right around 21 weeks, but I think it just depends on the birds. Right before they started to lay, I noticed their combs became really bright red and my first layer started making all sorts of noises that she didn't do before. A couple days after that, she started to lay, and a week after that, my other one started laying. I think some EE just take longer to mature depending on what they are mixed with, too, but that is just my thoughts. Good luck!

I have a question. I have 8 easter egger pullets and I was just wondering at what age they should start laying. They are approx. 6 months old and I still haven't gotten any eggs from them yet. Also will their combs get bigger and redder like other chickens. My rooster Cinder is about the same age as the girls and has been crowing for at least a month now, are the girls just slower at maturing?

Here is a pic of Cinder

This is Ralphie, he is an EE/FCM cross, so he has feathered legs and feet, which really makes him stand out.

They should lay anywhere from 16 weeks on. Mine were about 26 weeks old when they started laying. Yes, their combs do get more red and get a little bigger. You should expect to get an egg soon. When Snowflake (white one) started, Pancake(gray one) was only three days after Snowflake laid her first egg. Usually when one lays the other ones aren't far behind. Males do tend to mature faster than pullets do.

The case of the suddenly non laying hens has been solved. They have been waiting until they are let out in the evenings and go to lay in the dog house we have in the breeze way. Found 7 this morning there after the dog went after something that was in there and it was Tiger so I looked in and felt around and viola, a nest full of eggs.

Ralphie would be considered an "olive" since he is a Marans cross. If he were a hen he'd lay olive eggs.

My EE started laying at 24 weeks. She's a bit aloof and lays in strange places sometimes, so you might have to look around for their eggs. ;)

You may need extra light this time of year . They need 12-14 hours of light to lay good .

So if I put him with the blue egg layers later with they produce offspring with green or blue eggs?
