Easter Egger club!

My EE laid her first egg today at 8 months old, long wait, but she gave this gorgeous olive egg.

I'm jealous ! I ended up with two beautiful blue layers and 1 white. I'm very pleased, however your egg is wonderful. Maybe next batch.

Hi there! I'm fairly new to chickens in general, but I've picked up a lot in the four months that I've 'had my toe in the water'. However, due to different philosophies and information/misinformation when I think I understand something, it tends to turn into a question. Through most of my research/reading on here I had come to the conclusion that an EE is a chicken that has either Ameraucana or Arucana heritage mixed with any other breed and can lay any colored eggs. That most hatcheries or places that sell Ameraucanas really aren't Ameraucanas but EE unless they are an Ameraucana breeder. But I had a poster comment on my-what I call an EE (mine are barnyard mixes, but my Peep is unquestionably in that category with it's fluffy muff and beard,) stating that it looked like an EE which is a cousin to Ameraucana's. When I stated that yes, Peep was an EE (I still don't know wether Peep is a roo or hen...lol) I wasn't sure what else was in the mix as "she" has lightly feathered feet. the comment was made that oh, 'if she's a mix'... OK- One thing I was sure of is EEs are all mixes of some sort, am I wrong? Am I not understanding EEs? So if someone could help clarify what an EE truely is, I'd be grateful. I like passing on correct info when I open my mouth and I open it a lot, lol. Meanwhile, here's a pic of my Peep. She is 10 weeks old. She was a loner from my first hatch and because of that is a pet not a farm animal for me. Probably a roo, especially since i want her to be a hen so bad...lol. either way peep is a keeper I love her/him to death! I have 12 almost 4 weekers as well and I am sure half of those have/are EE mixed.

You're correct about EE's being mixes. That's why they're not a "breed" with standards.

Peep is a little roo

Some of my Easter Eggers are growing in their fuzzy cheeks and some aren't. Quite a variety of personality and color as well. These ladies are a little over 14 weeks here. I'm going to try to get photos of my Olive Egger chicks if they will cooperate. With my Australorps, Orpington bantams, and Isbars (please be pullets, please

), looking forward to a very colorful egg basket.
