Easter Egger club!

I don't see why you couldn't keep them in a dark room. The optimal room temp is between 50 - 60 degrees and you should turn them twice a day just to keep the yolk from sticking to one side of the shell.
Ok, thank you very much!

Hi all! I have come to join the EE owner's club. Thought I had Ameraucanas but I guess not. Love them anyway. As far as I know they come from Ameraucana blood lines, but they were not bred along color lines. Does anyone know what color I can expect from this mating? Babies are due to hatch Monday and I can't wait to see them.

Since your rooster is a splash version of the common partridge colored rooster he will pass blue to all his chicks . Splash is 2 copies of the blue dilution gene . So all chicks will be blue in the normally black areas . Blue is a dilution of black .

I would also recommend turning eggs twice a day during storage before incubation...if you put them in an egg tray and put a water bottle under it so its at a 45 degree angle....all you have to do to turn them is push down the otherside...all eggs turned...that's what I do...

That's what a splash looks like in an EE?

I know little to nothing of chicken colors, but why do you call him a splash? What does it take to be one?

Any black areas in any color can be turned to blue with 1 copy of blue and to splash with 2 copies of blue . I call him splash because that is the correct term for 2 copies of blue . He will pass blue to all his chicks as he has 2 copies and his chicks will receive 1 copy from him and no blue copies from this hen . Blue is a dominant gene so you see the effect of blue when this gene is present . He could be called splash partridge . However EE are not a true partridge as described in the Poultry Standards .
