Easter Egger club!

I am going to be keeping eggs over the next couple days to hatch. How many days can eggs be left set out and they still be hatchable when I put in the incubator? I'm hoping they can still be good up to about 7 days....?

7 days works fine for me . I will not go over 10 days .

I have had 99% fertility with eggs over 16 days old. I try not to hatch eggs that are over 14 though, and less than that if they have not been rotated to keep the air sack in place.

I am going to change the subject slightly, one of my chickens lays what I call the "porcelain" egg. It is not white, it is a kind of cream color. I have no idea who lays it, I assume it is one of my EE'ers but I am not sure.

Here is a copy I posted to my friends on the Minnesota thread while talking about my egg.

I get carried away with pictures but I think I have some that may show its beauty. I cannot believe how excited I get over egg pictures.

The first picture is with a brown egg on a white napkin.

This picture shows the porcelain egg on a black background with a blue egg on a white napkin. Blue eggs are hard for me to get the color right on my iPhone.

This is the porcelain egg. at least I think it is, it, to me is the perfect egg. I would marry it if I could and my wife would not commit me for it.

Look how beautiful it is, a nice cream color, perfect condition.... The other eggs are blue and light brown.

And here I am holding it. I get a tingle up my arm just holding such a perfect egg! Oh the other egg is brown. A medium shade of brown.

And now I am holding it with a blue egg

The eggs are left to right, light brown, olive, The prefect egg, a blue egg and a medium brown

Again left to right: Olive, Light brown, Medium brown, Porcelain/cream and the blue

same picture different exposure.

There is a young couple that would like some chickens for themselves, I cannot give them any because I do not know who lays the porcelain egg and I would hate to sell or give her away. I do not even dare send another chicken to freezer camp until I know who's egg it is.

I am sorry the pictures are not better, my IPhone lacks on some egg pictures.

I have a few hens that lay eggs that are similar to your porcelain egg, only a little darker brown. They are super soft!

My "porcelain" eggs is very hard and very shiny. The "finish" on it is so perfect it is hard to believe it is a real egg. My wife and I are trying to figure out the color, it is not the "egg shell" paint color, it is looks like a ceramic or porcelain egg is the best I can describe it. BTW I have no white egg layers in my flock.

Perhaps a drop of food dye in different colours on their vents for a day or two? My Cochin lays a very similar egg but it is much smaller due to her tiny size:D

Not a bad idea, but with our freeing temps I will wait, besides 30 birds are a lot to dye.

I am planning on splitting the girls up into coops and runs of 5-10 in a couple months for breeding. It will be easier then to see which group has the perfect egg. I have no plans to cull or sell anything until summer and it would only be to that young couple a couple miles away. I am sure if they want some sooner they would agree to give me the porcelain egg layer back if they got her.
